An outstanding opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to become part of our team based in Toronto, ON. Reporting to the Project Director Development, this is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership and direction for the Selection and Definition phases of a Major Capital Project to deliver the Jansen Non-Process Infrastructure, through an optimized project investment case, and to identify and manage project related Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) risk.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Direct and project manages the selection and definition phases of a major capital project and lead in the management of the study schedule, cost and scope to deliver the project's scope of work in accordance with the approved business objectives.
  • Lead the integration of inputs from contributing functions and manages trade-offs for optimising project value and actively manages the submission of projects through the investment process tollgates.
  • Monitor the development of the project to ensure that deviations from the study plan are adequately managed and communicated and rectified.
  • Manage project development in compliance with both internal and external governance processes and GLD performance requirements.
  • Lead the identification and management of project risks, communicating risks to relevant stakeholders and identifying solutions.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and ensures stakeholders are aligned throughout the course of the study through timely communication.
  • Establish and implement project development systems & processes that ensure all valid investment alternatives are identified and optimised to realise maximum value to the business.
  • Lead implementation of value optimization processes, value improvement practices, tools & processes for the study scope of work and risk and quality management plans to assure effective management of the study's scope of work.
  • Lead in the identification and implementation of improvement initiatives, including programmatic opportunities for increased capital efficiency and productivity in the sub-function.
  • Maximise value of investment opportunities by engaging with the Valuation and Investments sub function to work collaboratively and ensuring understanding of key value drivers of investment opportunities, as well as for the preparation of the valuation section of the investment approval request.
  • Lead the input of Project Delivery expertise into the Identification phase and collaborates with the Direction Studies sub function to ensure the smooth transition of the project from the Identification Phase into the Selection Phase.
  • Lead the team in ensuring that the outcomes of the project development studies and business requirements are understood and accepted by the Execution Phase Project Team.
Key requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent discipline, a post graduate business/finance qualifications (e.g. MBA) is preferred
  • 15+ years' experience in Major Capital Studies & Projects in mining or construction
  • 10+ years' of experience in leading a team
  • Experience in the mining industry, including production, technical management and/or project management roles with a track record of project delivery
  • Previous experience with large operational development projects ($4B+)
  • A good knowledge of multidiscipline engineering and industry standard practices
  • Superior interpersonal skills to interact and influence consultants and stakeholder
  • Travel to Saskatoon and the Jansen Project site is required for this role

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package commensurate with abilities and experience (base salary approx. $164,800—$247,000 per annum).
