Duties

The ABS maintains a register to assist in filling non-ongoing (temporary) employment opportunities that may arise in the Technology Services Division nationally. The register is used to allow ABS Managers to search for suitable candidates when a vacancy arises. The positions may be located in any of our offices which are located in all capital cities.

These vacancies are non-ongoing (temporary) employment opportunities and contracts may vary from a few days to 12 months depending on the business requirement of the ABS.

Positions are office based and may be filled at the APS 2, 4 and 6 levels or Executive 1 and 2 levels.

The Technology Services Division provides a comprehensive information technology and communication service to the ABS. We are searching for talented and motivated systems administrators, application developers and business analysts to join the ABS.
You will be able to provide solutions to ABS business problems using technical competence, originality, independence, initiative and judgement. Successful applicants may be engaged in project management, design, programming, testing, IT security, systems administration, database administration, network administration, development of standards, performance management, change management, professional development of staff and other roles relevant to running an active IT service.

The ABS IT environment encompasses:
• application development (business and systems analysis, design, architecture, programming, testing, system integration and implementation),
• IT Security,- server environments,
• desktop environment,
• Network operating systems,
• voice/data communications, and
The applications technologies we use include Java, Oracle, SAS, Lotus Notes/Domino and .NET.

To be successful in this role you will need personal drive and integrity, excellent analytical skills, proven IT experience (or suitable IT qualifications) and the ability to communicate effectively to build productive working relationships.
